Tuesday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Partly Sunny, Isolated Shower – High 78 / Tonight – Scattered Showers – Low 60

Shortwave disturbance that was discussed in this morning’s forecast continues to move our way, as Gulf moisture streams north toward us here in south central Kentucky.  These two factors will increase our rain chances as we get into this evening and tonight, with a stray storm or two also possible.  Severe weather is not anticipated.  Take a look at the water vapor satellite image below, which illustrates the damp airmass heading our way from the south:

Wed – Scattered Showers & Storms – High 75 / Wed Night – Gradual Clearing – Low 55
Temps ~ 6am 60 | 12pm 74 | 4pm 75

Upper disturbance will move overhead, keeping shower and storms in the forecast.  Latest rainfall forecast suggests values up to .25 – .75″ possible through tomorrow afternoon.  Otherwise, partly cloudy skies will stick around, before gradual clearing takes place through the night, as an upper ridge begins to take hold across the region.  The 500mb vorticity model below displays the position of the shortwave disturbance at 10am tomorrow morning:

Thu – Partly Sunny – High 80 / Thu Night – Clear – Low 55

Temps ~ 6am 56 | 12pm 77 | 4pm 80

Ridge in the upper levels of the atmosphere will have complete control of our weather pattern.  Partly sunny and nice.  Enjoy!

Fri – Mostly Sunny – High 80 / Fri Night – Clear – Low 58

Temps ~ 6am 57 | 12pm 76 | 4pm 80

More of the same, gang.  Upper ridge will maintain control through the end of the work week, supplying plentiful amounts of sun rays to paint the sky.  Models still don’t have a convincing handle on the passing of a cold front this weekend, which will bring our next significant chance at precipitation.  As of right now, it looks like Sunday will be the day the front passes, but it is not written in stone.
Plan on a damp atmosphere tonight and tomorrow.  Other than that, we look to remain NICE for the last few days of the work week.  Check back in tomorrow morning for a fresh forecast post.  Until then, stay in touch on Facebookand Twitter for more frequent information.  Have a great rest of your day, and thanks for reading!
