Stagnant Pattern Setting Up For Rain Tomorrow

Smile... tomorrow is FRIDAY!
Smile… tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Thursday: South central Kentucky will be in the lull of southerly flow today, which will keep a warm, humid airmass in place.  A mix of sun and clouds will be accompanied by isolated storms, with the majority of our area remaining dry.  The most prone time for a stray storm to develop will be this afternoon and evening.  6am 65 | 12pm 82 | 4pm 84

Friday: A cold front will approach from our west, in response to an upper trough digging into the Ohio Valley.  This will coincide with the warm, muggy air that will be in place to fire off scattered showers and storms to go along with partly sunny skies.  The NAM HiRes model below displays simulated radar for 4pm Friday afternoon.  Please keep in mind that this is only a model:

The cold front will advance across the region on Friday night, raising chances for the wet stuff.  I expect the better part of the region to be impacted by showers and storms during this time.  Strong storms could result from this setup, with a few potentially meeting severe criteria.  I’ll continue to monitor and update as necessary. 6am 67 | 12pm 82 | 4pm 87

Saturday & Sunday: Lingering showers and storms on Saturday morning will gradually give way to partly cloudy skies by the afternoon.  High pressure will build in behind the cold front, giving us pleasant conditions to enjoy through most of the weekend.  Much cooler, drier air will filter in behind the front, suppressing high temperatures to the mid – upper 70s.  It will be a great weekend to enjoy the outdoors!

That will wrap it up for now, gang.  I’ll be back this afternoon with a fresh look at our weather pattern.  Have a great day, and thanks for reading!
