Happy Friday, Kentucky! This past week has been an active period of weather for WABBLES. We had Heat Advisories, Flash Flood Watches, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Flood Advisories across our 7 counties. You never know what Kentucky weather will throw at us! The weather tries to calm down as we head into the weekend with still isolated storm chances in the mix.
Isolated Storms Today
The majority of the Ohio Valley is going to see some relief from the heat and humidity today and tomorrow. Now not to fast, unfortunately that does not mean WABBLES will have that luxury.
You can see in the picture above how we in Kentucky continue to see moisture streaming in from the south. This will also mean the risk for more pop up showers and storms this afternoon.
Dew points will be much higher for those across southern and western Kentucky compared to areas farther north. This is why WABBLES will still have a chance for scattered showers and storms this afternoon. Here is
Storm chances will only be 30%-40% otherwise mostly sunny skies this afternoon with temperatures reaching close to 90 degrees. Winds stay calm today, temperatures back off to 70 degrees overnight while mostly dry.
Saturday
Saturday looks like a similar situation so don’t cancel any of those outdoor activities! Southern Kentucky and Tennessee will have the best chance for isolated showers and storms.
The parameter above is what we call “Theta-e”. This may sound complex, but it really just shows us how “juicy” the atmosphere is for thunderstorms. You can see the maxima of higher Theta-e in the circled area. This is why we still have a small chance for showers and storms Saturday. Storm chances again will be 20%-30%, otherwise mostly sunny skies. Temperatures top our near 90 degrees before dropping down to 71 degrees overnight
Tracking the Tropics
Its that time of
As of 7 am, Hanna is a 40mph tropical storm and is moving WNW at 9mph. This storm is expected to hit Texas this coming weekend as a strong Tropical Storm with winds up to 65mph. Heavy rain and gusty winds will be the main threat.
That’ll do it for today! Have a wonderful Friday everyone, don’t forget to keep an eye on the sky. Follow us @wxornotBG: (Twitter / Facebook / Instagram)
