Afternoon Storm Chances Continue Into Weekend

Happy Thursday, Bowling Green! The weekend is almost here! Along with it comes the continued chances for showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by that oh-so typical summertime heat and humidity.

Showers Possible Today

After a relatively wet week so far, the streak could very well continue for your Thursday as well. After starting in the lower 70s, temperatures this afternoon should top out around 90 degrees. Scattered showers are possible in the morning hours, before further convective development occurs this afternoon with daytime heating. Cells that develop in the afternoon will be isolated in nature, though.

Another Stormy Weekend

The daily chances of showers and storms continue for the remainder of the workweek, and yes, the weekend as well. Bummer, right? Well, I’ve got some good news! Shower and storm chances are modest at best, meaning coverage will be 20-40% area-wide both Saturday and Sunday the way things appear now.

Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the lower 90s, a typical value for this time of year in South-Central Kentucky. Outdoor plans for the upcoming weekend should be a-okay, so long as folks stay alert to changing weather conditions in the afternoon each day, as thunderstorms can develop rather quickly.

Tracking The Tropics:

As of 6AM (Central) this morning, there are two systems being closely monitored in the Atlantic Basin. First and foremost, we have Tropical Storm Gonzalo, a 65MPH storm with a pressure of 997mb approaching the eastern Caribbean. It is unclear if this system will have U.S. impacts as of yet, but must be watched.

Secondly, we have Tropical Depression Eight, which is likely to have U.S. impacts, primarily on the Texas coast. TD Eight is expected to become a tropical storm as it approaches the coast. Tropical Storm Watches are now in effect for much of the Texas coastline.
