Spring Starts Stormy and Cooler

I know yesterday was technically the first day of Spring (the Vernal Equinox), but today will be the first full day of Spring, seeing as how the official equinox was at 10:50pm last night. And speaking of yesterday, it was quite warm as we were well into the warm sector of the storm system headed our way. Now we await the last round of rain with this system as spring starts warm before cold front rolls in.

Warm Start to Spring

As we sit this morning, we’re still awaiting the final passage of the cold front that brought us rain and thunderstorms last night.

Ahead of it, the air remains quite soupy as we hover near 70° with dew points in the middle 60s, making it feel closer to a summer morning than a spring one, even with stout southwest breezes out there. We’re just waiting on one last push of rainfall as the front comes through before we’re rid of this system, and that should push through this afternoon.

This final round may not be a huge area of rain, but we’ll still keep an eye on it. As this pushes through, our winds will shift to the northwest, and we’ll start to shut the rain down, cool the air down and scour out some of that humidity.

Thanks to northwest breezes around 10 MPH behind the front, we’ll usher in that cooler air that will give us lows slightly more appropriate for wintertime as even under cloudy skies, we’ll still make it down to about 38° overnight.

Sunshine for Saturday

But will this be a sight for sore eyes…sunshine returns to start the weekend!

A little bit of high pressure will glide over us to get the day started on Saturday, reducing those clouds and bringing back the brilliant sunshine to the area.

I know we’ve all been staying inside and practicing our good social distancing, but today’s a day that it won’t hurt to get out of the house for a little bit and walk the dog around the neighborhood, go for a short jog or play with the kids in the backyard. Even if temperatures are a touch chilly.

It’ll be a good day for a hoodie or pullover as highs end up right around 50° in the afternoon as winds lighten up out of the north and northeast. As the sun goes down, we’ll begin to drop once again to around 35° this time as skies will be partly cloudy.

Rain Chances Return Sunday

The story of the past month or two continues as Sunday features yet another chance for rain moving into the region.

It won’t be a lot of rain in the area, but the possibility will be there for a few showers, especially during the afternoon hours on Sunday.

Again, this rain, won’t be particularly heavy but scattered showers will remain around the area, starting in the late morning hours, increasing into the afternoon. This will keep temperatures in check to similar levels as Saturday, with a high only around 50° or so. Rain should begin to taper off overnight, falling to a low near 40°

Another Wet Week

As we enter the last full week of March, more passing disturbances will give us a shot at some more rain as we go through the week. A stray shower on Monday leads to more showers and storms as we head for Tuesday and Wednesday. We’re back near 60°, however, on Monday as we flirt with 65° and 70° as we head towards midweek.
