Return of Heat and Humidity Kick Off the Weekend

After two quite pleasant days with below average temperature and humidity for mid-June, summer weather is back as the return of heat and humidity kick off the weekend.

Mostly Dry, but Hot and Humid, Saturday

We’re now less than a week from the start of meteorological summer and boy is Mother Nature making it known as she turns up the thermostat this afternoon. Temperatures this morning are already jumping into the mid 70s.

Winds will pick up today in advance of a frontal system that will get hung up right around the Ohio River this afternoon. That should keep most of the rain and storms confined to our north while re-introducing heat and humidity to south-central Kentucky.

Clouds will definitely be with us this afternoon, with the non-zero chance of a stray storm. Any storm that does fire could be on the strong side, but it’s not likely. Highs top out around 88º or so this afternoon.

Showers and storms will make better progress toward the region later in the evening and into the overnight hours as clouds thicken up and we fall to a muggy overnight low near 70º.

Afternoon Showers and Storms for Father’s Day

Probably not a bad idea to keep dad indoors for this one, not only because of the heat and humidity, but we re-introduce afternoon showers and storms into the forecast as well.

The frontal boundary that gets hung up in southern Indiana today will meander about the Ohio Valley tomorrow, giving us a better shot at seeing some afternoon wet weather.

I don’t think Father’s Day is a washout and if you can find some dry time, by all means head out…just take frequent breaks because outside of storms, we’ll be pushing 90º for a high. With the heat and humidity also comes the threat for some more strong storms. Another 1/5 risk comes your way Sunday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall will definitely be an issue as well, not everyone will see rain, but if you do, it could come down heavy, with rainfall rates near an inch per hour. Nonetheless, storm chances continue overnight as we only fall to a low near 70º again.

Active Pattern Heading into the Work Week

Monday will be deja vu all over again as a cold front is once again poised to make an attempt at a run through the Ohio Valley.

And this means even better chances at afternoon showers and thunderstorms to start the new work week.

And much like the previous two days, we can’t rule out a strong storm as we’ll be under yet another Marginal Risk for Monday afternoon.

‘Tis the season, I suppose. Increase cloud cover and rain coverage will keep highs closer to 85º for Monday afternoon. Overnight lows near 70º once again as we keep the rain and storms around…which will be a recurring theme through the rest of the week.

We’ll keep daily chances for storms around through the end of the week along with those summery temperatures, meaning we could be dealing with some heftier rainfall totals by the end of the week. The forecast from the Weather Prediction Center has much of the area receiving upwards of three inches of rainfall in the next week.

As always, we’ll keep an eye on it.
