Pleasant Friday Leads into a Summery Weekend

We’ve seen a couple of rain chances interspersed in a couple of fairly pleasant days and we’ll see one more of those as a pleasant Friday leads into a summery weekend.

One More Nice Day Friday

Yes, the rain and summer-like heat are coming back…but let’s all enjoy one last beautiful day to close out the week.

A ridge of high pressure will remain in place to finish the week, sliding just off to our south and east. This will keep up dry but increase our temperatures thanks to southerly winds returning.

I think highs top out closer to 80º this afternoon with those mostly sunny skies. We’ll keep the humidity lower by summer standards but higher dew points will be starting their comeback to the region as well. Clouds increase ahead of our new storm system Friday night, but still a cool 60º for a low.

Heat Returns Saturday

We’ll expect increasing cloudiness with rain eventually falling from those clouds. The first in a series of disturbances will impact us beginning on Saturday, with temperatures increasing ahead of scattered thunderstorms.

We’ll spend Saturday afternoon under partly to mostly cloudy skies as sustained southerly winds upwards of 15 MPH (with gusts possibly exceeding 30 MPH) will allow high temperatures to soar back to near 90º as well as allowing more June-appropriate moisture levels to infiltrate the area. In short? Hot and muggy is back.

It’s as we head into late Saturday night and Sunday that scattered storms become more likely. Saturday night’s lows only fall to a muggy 70º under mostly cloudy skies.

Storm Chances Return Sunday

By Sunday morning, we’ll be firmly ensconced in the summer-like heat and humidity we expect from mid-June, so it makes sense that we’ll see some scattered storms return as a disturbance pivots through the area.

These scattered afternoon storms will likely have some hefty rainfall rates with them if you get caught under one. Also can’t rule out some gusty winds with any storm, but widespread severe weather isn’t anticipated. June temperatures standards are back with highs near 90º once again, especially if you can catch more sunshine.

Showers and storms hang with us through the evening Sunday and into the overnight hours as the stationary boundary gets hung up in the area. Overnight lows will remain warm, near 70º as more scattered showers and storms will roam the area.

Stormy Start to the Week

The frontal boundary will continue to set up shop in the Commonwealth through the start of next week, and that means a very summery regime will be firmly in place with more scattered afternoon storms for Monday and Tuesday.

With the cloud cover around, highs will range between 80º-85º, a touch better than the near-90º heat of this weekend. Overnight lows stay near 70º.
