Warm Wednesday Before Storm Chances Arrive

Howdy friends, and Happy Hump Day. I hope this week has been off to a great start for you. It been a nice week thus far weather-wise, and we’ll have a warm Wednesday before storm chances arrive tomorrow.

Sunny and Warm Today

Today looks to be the last day of sunny skies, so get out and enjoy it.

South-southeast winds will help drive up afternoon temperatures to around 87º-90ºF, definitely a bit warmer than we’ve seen so far this year. Winds should stay under 15 mph, but we still could have some 20 mph gusts.

By the evening hours, clouds will be increasing ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Rain chances arrive later tonight, mainly after 1 AM.

Overnight temperatures will also be a bit warmer than we’ve had. Low temperatures are only expected to drop down to around 70ºF.

Showers and Storms Possible for Thursday

Rain showers should continue throughout the morning hours tomorrow. A few thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow afternoon as well.

The Storm Prediction Center has out entire area in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather.

Temperatures will only reach around 76º-78ºF, a bit cooler than the last few days. The cooler temperatures and prior showers will limit the amount of instability the atmosphere will need to develop widespread severe storms. Instead, we may see a few isolated strong thunderstorms, but impacts should remain minimal.

The main timing for any storms will be mid afternoon to early evening. Rainfall totals for today could range from 0.5 to 1 inch, and locally higher amounts if a thunderstorm is present.

After the passing of any storms, a few lingering showers may stick around late tomorrow night and into Friday morning. Temperatures overnight will also drop to around 68ºF.

Friday Commencement Forecast

The WKU Spring 2019 Commencement will be Friday evening at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium. Luckily, models are portraying rain showers to be exiting the wxornotBG area by the mid morning hours.

Once showers move out, skies should remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be around 68º-71ºF, much cooler due the cold front that comes through Thursday night. Winds will also be out of the northeast, predominantly under 10 mph.

By the evening hours, winds should still remain light, with temperatures dipping to around 54ºF. A light jacket may be needed if planning to go out and enjoy the start of the weekend.

Rest of the Weekend Outlook

Saturday: The models have not been agreeing well for Saturday, which places some uncertainty into the forecast. The NAM has some rain showers moving in during the morning hours, but the GFS keeps everything south until the early afternoon. We’ll have updates for this as timing gets closer.

Sunday: There is more confidence in rain showers for Sunday. The GFS has rain chances from overnight Saturday night, all day Sunday, and into the nighttime hours. Sunday is still too far away to determine any rainfall amounts as the forecast can change, but this is to give an early outlook to what the weekend may look like.
