Howdy, friends, and Happy Hump Day! After a warm and windy day yesterday, temperatures will be much cooler. Fortunately, sunshine dominates the rest of the week for us.

Cooler Temperatures Arrive Today

A dry cold front has passed our region, and it brought cooler temperatures from the north.

Winds will be out of the northwest today, and quite breezy. We can expect constant winds of 10-15mph, and gusts of 25mph.

These winds are bringing in cooler air, so only expect our high temperature to be at the 40ºF mark. Bundle up the kids today. The combination of cooler temperatures and strong winds will drive down the wind chill to the low 30s for today.

As for low temperatures tonight, we can expect thermometers to drop to the 20ºF mark. This is much different than what we’ve had the last few days.

More Sun for Thursday

There won’t be much change for Thursday.

High pressure will continue to keep skies clear for us, but will help calm down the winds some. We can expect temperatures to hit the upper 30s, but with winds only around 5-10mph. Winds will still be out of the north, which helps transport in that cooler air.

Once again, skies will remain clear overnight, which will help get the low temperatures down into the low 20s.

One Last Day of Sun on Friday Before a Potential Change

Even with the cooler temperatures, the sunny skies are pretty nice. Friday will be our last day of sunshine before our next system arrives.

Clouds will be on the increase later in the day, but mostly sunny skies will allow temperatures to reach the low 40s. Currently, our next weather system is looking to arrive Friday night and into Saturday morning.

NAM predicts rain to enter around 9pm Friday. (Pivotal Weather)
NAM predicts rain to enter around 9pm Friday. (Pivotal Weather)

The NAM predicts rain to move into our area by 9pm Friday night, and then transition to a wintry mix or snow. All precipitation types are currently on the table.

NAM model (Pivotal Weather)
NAM model (Pivotal Weather)

The NAM model thinks that we could see a transition from rain to snow by 3AM Saturday. The weather model has the freezing line just north of our area, so mixed precipitation is possible through the day on Saturday.

Currently it is looking that most snow will fall across Missouri and Illinois, but we could have some accumulation if we do get the switch over from rain to snow.

It is important to take this extended forecast with a grain of salt. Any slight movement in the track that the system takes will drastically change the forecast this far out.
