Break out the full winter wardrobe today as it will be clear and cold under high pressure. Our temperatures will only peak in the mid 30’s this afternoon before plummeting back to the low 20’s again for tomorrow morning.

Low Pressure System Brings Chance of Snow Late Tomorrow

Tomorrow afternoon, high temperatures will reach the low 40’s with cloudy skies as this weekend’s weathermaker approaches our region. When the precipitation starts in the late afternoon/early evening, it will likely be light rain or quickly melting snow due to the above freezing afternoon temperatures.

As temperatures drop to near freezing overnight, the rain may change over to snow resulting in light accumulations (perhaps up to 2 slushy inches), especially on elevated surfaces such as grass or overpasses. Chances for accumulating snow from this storm is greatest in Butler and Edmonson Counties and decreases toward the Tennessee border. Roads could become slippery from tomorrow night through Saturday morning when the temperatures warm above freezing again. Therefore, take the winter driving precautions of driving slow, having a charged phone, and having a emergency kit.

Snow Turns to a Chilly Rain for Saturday and Sunday

By the late morning on Saturday, the snow will transition back to plain rain. Any overnight snow accumulations will quickly melt off since temperatures will rise to the low 40’s. The cold rain will continue through Saturday night and into Sunday with temperatures remaining stubbornly in the upper 30’s.

Another Shot at Light Snow Sunday Night

Cold air rushing in behind the exiting low pressure system could provide us another chance of light, accumulating snow again on Sunday night. However, uncertainty still lingers on whether we will actually transition from rain to snow and whether the snow will stick, so follow @wxornotbg for the latest updates on this developing storm.
