Good Morning friends! Hopefully you all had a great Christmas, and are looking forward to the new year. While we will have a pleasant Wednesday, wind and rain arrive on Thursday.
Dry and Clear Wednesday
Today looks to be a calm and quiet day, perfect for any family outdoor activities. High pressure to our east continues to keep us dry.
Our temperatures should be in the mid to upper 50s, with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be out of the southwest, and mostly under 10 mph.
Temperatures overnight look to be fairly mild for this time of year, only dropping into the mid 40s. You can thank steady winds (10 mph) out of the south for this. Clouds will be on the increase as our next weather maker approaches.
Rain Returns Thursday with Very Strong Winds
A Low Pressure system out in Kansas will be working its way northeast into the upper midwest area. This will bring rain, possibly some rumbles of thunder, and strong winds.
This complicated system will bring rain showers ahead of the warm front, and a possibility for a few rumbles of thunder once the warm front passes and ahead of the cold front.
Unfortunately, you will need your rain gear if heading out tomorrow morning. Rain looks to be moving into our area early Thursday morning around 6 AM. Temperatures in the morning look to be in the mid to upper 40s.
We could see a few breaks in rain, but as the cold front approaches, heavier rain and some thunder will occur.
Above, the NAM model shows heavier rains moving into our area around 6 PM. There is no threat for severe weather, but this could make your evening unpleasant if driving around. Temperatures around dinner time look to be in the upper 50s.
A Wind Advisory has been issued for our entire area from 6 AM Thursday to 6 AM Friday.
Winds will be strong out of the south all day, around 15-25 mph. We could even have wind gusts up to 40-45 mph. Because the warm front will have passed over us, temperatures overnight will stay in the mid to upper 50s (maybe even low 60s for a few areas).
Rain Moves Out on Friday…Cold Front Finally Passes
Rain should persist through the overnight hours and into Friday. The NAM model suggests that showers will be moving out of our area by mid to late morning, but could even last until lunch time.
When the system moves out, we could see a total of an inch of rain over Thursday and into Friday.
Luckily, we will catch a break before the next system. Skies should clear out, and become sunny by the later afternoon hours. Temperatures will be in the lower 60s, with winds out of the southwest.
The cold front will pass later on Friday, which will switch winds to be out of the northwest and temperatures to fall. Low temperatures will be in the mid 30s (like normal) with mostly clear skies.
New Year Brings Cold Temperatures
While our “winter” so far has been pretty mild, 2019 looks to start off with much colder temperatures.
