Storm Chances to Help Keep High Heat at Bay

Good Thursday morning to everyone! I hope everyone has had a great week! We have had our share of storms over the previous few days, but look for storm chances to help keep high heat at bay.

Think Thursday Thunder

This week has featured plenty of thunderstorms, and today and Friday really don’t look too much different.

A nice little upper level low is spinning to our west, and will continue to gradually approach the region today. This will be our primary spark for storms, and has already sparked some to our southwest.

The models haven’t picked up on the storms to our southwest just yet, and they’re moving slowly northeast. I think the boundaries laid by these storms could spark off more storms around here, too.

Otherwise, it’ll be partly to mostly cloudy. This day won’t be a washout by any stretch. Just watch for heavy rainfall and lightning as the main threats. Highs should be in the upper 80s (86ºF-88ºF).

Friday Looks Cloudier and Rainier

The upper level low will really approach the region tonight and Friday. It looks to bring with it more substantial rainfall chances.

This low looks to spark off more widespread rain chances during the day, which will lead to cloudier conditions and much cooler temps. Highs on Friday are only expected to be in the low and mid 80s (82ºF-84ºF).

Overall, we aren’t looking at a lot of heavy rainfall, but the rain will be much needed for some places, and will be a nice soaking. The Weather Prediction Center is anticipating between 0.5″ and 1″ of rainfall between today and tomorrow.

Continue to be cautious of lightning, as it will be the main threat with any storms that do form.

Warmer Saturday

The upper level low will really be out of our hair by Saturday afternoon, and that will allow partly cloud skies to return to the region.

Underneath that August sun, temperatures should soar into the lower 90s on Saturday afternoon. That’ll be the atmosphere ahead of a weak surface cold front. This cold front will act as the lift needed to spark off some isolated storms.

Those storms won’t be as widespread as Thursday or Friday, but the threat is still there. Watch for that and heat as your primary impacts to outdoor activities on Saturday.

Beyond that, a cutoff low looks to meander its way into the Ohio Valley, and will provide some focus for isolated showers heading into early next week. It will also keep temperatures cooler!
