Severe Thunderstorms Expected Tomorrow

Hey everyone! I am here primarily to give an update on the expected severe weather threat tomorrow afternoon and evening.

We are looking at an anomalous large scale system approaching the region over the next 24 hours. It is currently situated across the northern Plains, and is bringing severe weather to Iowa, Kansas and Missouri right now.

This system is expected to move towards our region, and should bring with it the threat for severe weather. The SPC has placed our region in an Enhanced Risk for severe weather.

We are expecting moisture to return back to the region tomorrow afternoon, and with temperatures rising, this should allow for significant instability to develop across the region.

As the surface cold front pushes south and southeastward, it will force storms to develop in this unstable environment, and they’ll be capable of producing all types of severe weather. Here is what we’re expecting:

1. Expect isolated to scattered storms early in the morning. There will be a warm front traversing east and northeast across the region, and may produce small hail. Severe weather is not anticipated with this round.
2. Depending on how the above round behaves, we may see more or less instability during the afternoon hours.
3. Storms are expected to develop as isolated storms to our north, and congeal into a major line of storms.
4. Wind damage (gusts >60 mph), and large hail (1″-2″+ sized) are the main threats. Tornadoes and flash flooding are secondary threats.
5. The primary timing looks to be 4 to 10 pm across our region, but may be a bit earlier or later than that. This is a relatively fluid situation.
