A Warm, Cloudy, and Maybe Rainy Week Ahead

Hey folks! Hope we are all doing wonderful on this Sunday morning! We are entering quite the active pattern across the eastern two-thirds of the country, and this should lead to a warm, cloudy, and maybe rainy week ahead!

It is Looking Mild

Spring fever caught me off guard last Thursday, as the 70s and high dewpoints made me feel like it was late Spring and I was chasing storms again.

Those were the days! Well, it appears like Thursday won’t be isolated in nature. The beginning of the mild stretch begins today. Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected, with highs in the mid 50s.

Now, if you think that is nice, just wait for the beginning of the work week. Within strong forcing, a low pressure system is forecast to develop across the midwest.

This will begin to interact with the retreating high pressure system that moves to our east, creating southwesterly flow for both Monday and Tuesday.

And this won’t be weak flow; this will likely be breezy to windy southwesterly flow, similar to what we saw last Thursday.

As we all know, this aids in warming temps quite a bit at the surface. Despite what looks to be partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies both days, I am expecting a high of around 70°F Monday and upper 70s for highs on Tuesday.

Now for a Rainfall Discussion

The forecast has changed quite a bit from late last week. I was concerned for several days that we would see training of rainfall over a several day timeframe, but the models have shifted that axis to our west a bit.

The WPC forecast is somewhat a reflection of the models, and includes the precip expected next weekend. h/t WPC

The first real shot of rain comes tonight and into the early morning hours of your Monday. This rain will be light, but it will be the start of an active period for us.

Despite the fact that the majority of forcing looks to be to our west to start the work week, we are still looking at heavy rain and an active time ahead.

The rain should approach Wednesday and Thursday, and then again next weekend. The models are painting a picture of high likelihoods for significant rain during these periods of time.

Be sure to keep up with the latest forecast as the week goes on. With saturated grounds, it won’t take much to worsen flooding that we have seen recently.
