Good Tuesday afternoon! I hope you’re enjoying this snow day. We can’t say thank you enough to the folks that brave the elements to clear roadways and keep the heat on! They absolutely deserve a standing ovation!
Temperatures are expected to fall pretty hard tonight. However, some upper level clouds may move into the region which may keep temperatures just above zero. Below, clouds are visible to our southeast and to our north. But, snow is visible over much of western Kentucky and Tennessee.
Some low level moisture will work into the region overnight. Given the bitter cold temperatures, it won’t take much moisture for a few snow showers and flurries to form nearĀ the surface.
Given very cold ground conditions, anything that falls will accumulate. Only very light accumulations are expected though (up to 1/4″). With many side/backroads still covered in snow, this will only pour salt into the wound. Travel will remain hazardous on county roads well into Wednesday.
Northwest winds will make conditions feel like it’s below freezing, so bundle up if you’re going to be out and about tonight into Wednesday morning.
The flurries should gradually fade away early Wednesday, leading to mostly sunny skies. Don’t let those conditions fool you, though. Temperatures will still be frigid, with highs stuck in the low 20s. Fear not…a warm up is in the cards late this week! More details about will be included in Wednesday morning’s forecast post.
