Storm Chase Day 9: Santa Fe and Colorado

Wednesday, we woke up in Santa Fe expecting a pretty easy drive into Colorado and another fun sight seeing day. That sort of happened, but was delayed by sickness. So, some of us headed out into Santa Fe to enjoy the morning. It was absolutely beautiful outside. Temperatures were pretty warm, but not too warm. It was sunny and Santa Fe was absolutely just cool.

We all walked around the city for a couple of hours checking out all of the local businesses in the area, and the historic district. I stopped in at a local fly shop, and bought myself a nice t-shirt that was really pretty cool. But that wasn’t even close to being the highlight of the day. Santa Fe has some absolutely beautiful cathedrals, and that was one of my highlights of this whole trip.

Oh man, they were stunning. I am not Catholic, but I got chills in these places. They were playing beautiful hymns and the way it sounded in the cathedral was something else. I got legitimate chills and my jaw dropped when I walked into both. They were simply stunning. The rest of the city was unbelievably beautiful, and had some awesome things going for it. We ate lunch at a fantastic local burrito place downtown, and after that we headed for Colorado.

We did much more sightseeing the rest of the day, as we stopped at what was one of the more surprising and cool things I have seen in nature. We drove over the Rio Grande gorge, and it was beautiful. My fear of heights was noted for the second day in a row, but it was still so beautiful.

This was a short stop on our trip into Colorado, and the drive was amazing. We basically just stared at mountains the rest of the day. We finally ended up inĀ our town, and after we dropped our stuff off at the hotel, we went to Great Sand Dunes National Parks. This place was awesome. It is literally just random sand dunes in the middle of some mountains in Colorado. They are steep and very cool. The contrast between the beautiful mountains and the sand dunes is pretty awesome.

After we got done there, we had pizza at a pretty good local place in Alamosa, Colorado, and stayed there for the night.
