Rainy Bowling Green Weather today; MAJOR Cold Shot Coming?

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar

Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday was a fairly nice day across the region. It was mostly sunny, a bit cool, but who cares? The semester ENDED yesterday. It was amazing, and kinda surreal. However, nothing else really mattered because the semester ended. Can you hear my excitement??

Discussion

This forecast is really interesting. However, it only becomes really interesting on Tuesday/Wednesday, but I’ll get to that in a second.

The next three days will be super gloomy and nasty, honestly, as a couple of weather systems impact the region. The first today isn’t really much here, other than light showers increasing across the region this afternoon and into tonight.

There will be a weak shortwave trough approach the region, and this will encounter some moisture transported northward over the past dayish time frame. This will produce the light showers that I mentioned above.

While showers look to increase this afternoon, don’t anticipate them having a significant impact on the WKU Championship game this afternoon. This forecast is calling for a WKU WIN! Go Tops!

Tomorrow will see showery weather agaaaaain. I’m not frustrated by it as much as I am just kinda “Eh” about it. The shortwave will be exiting through the day, so by the evening time, most of the precip should have exited the region.

Monday is the really interesting weather day of the week. A shortwave trough currently over Northern Mexico is forecast to eject north-northeastward by Monday morning and begin to affect us. This will force a surface low that looks to propagate directly over, or near our region. This will force some pretty nice rainfall across the region for most of Monday.

Look for rainfall totals from this weekend’s event to be in the 1″ range, which will be very beneficial for region wide drought.

Now, what was I mentioning about Tuesday/Wednesday? Well, as the title alludes to, we are looking at the likelihood of a major cold shot affecting the region for several days heading into next weekend. Much of the model guidance has consistently been pointing to a cold shot containing temperatures well below average. We are looking at the possibility of highs in the 20s for a couple days, as well. Outside of temperatures, other sensible weather impacts are basically unknown at this point. However, it does look cold. Check out these potential temperature anomalies!

While these aren't real temperatures, temperature anomaly forecasts give a good sense of how cold it will be. Temperature anomaly maps just show how far away from average the actual temperatures are forecast to be. h/t pivotalweather.com

There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding this, but a cold shot is looking more and more likely to send temps plunging into the teens and 20s late this coming week.

Today’s Key Points

  • Rainy over the next couple days
  • 1″-1.5″ of precip likely
  • Bit warmer on Monday with the low pressure system
  • Cold shot is likely looming
