Storms and a Cool Down Coming for Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar

Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday was a hot one, but it wasn’t as hot as I was expecting yesterday morning. The high was 88, which did tie a record, but didn’t exceed one. A fairly dense cumulus field developed by early afternoon, and I think this threw my forecast off a bit. Winds were very gusty from the southwest, but temps didn’t warm as much in response to that as I expected.

Discussion

As I mentioned yesterday, the forecast over the next few days is looking pretty interesting! The forecast isn’t much different than it was at this time yesterday, so that is really nice!

The trough I mentioned yesterday as being our major weather producer is currently crossing the Rockies in central/eastern Colorado, and is propagating towards us.

As this occurs, a weak cold front will be hanging around just to our north. This will likely be the focus of some shower/storm activity, but this should mainly stay to our north today. I do expect that to throw some cloud cover our way, in addition to the approaching trough.

The front to our north will likely be producing precip, which will likely give us some cloud cover. h/t pivotalweather.com

As the trough approaches, it will begin to amplify and strengthen, and will begin to force a surface low to form across our region. Model guidance develops this surface low just to our west, and the show it propagating near us, or just to our north. This will drag a fairly strong cold front with it, and the low will be intensifying as it propagates eastward as well.

As this occurs, anticipate rainfall ahead of the front, and for storms to potentially be included as well. Temps will spike into the low 70s ahead of the front, which looks to move through in the early afternoon hours.

After this passes, we should be in the clear for rainfall, but it is likely to get a bit windy behind the front for a few hours. Not as windy as yesterday, but winds could be in the 20 mph range.

By Friday, the cool down will officially be in place. We will have full northwesterly flow, from the surface up into the mid levels of the atmosphere. This will keep it cool, with highs only reaching the lower 60s.

Today’s Key Points:

  • Likely another warm day today, but clouds increase by evening
  • Cool down begins tomorrow afternoon; rain and wind w/cold front passage
  • Rain amounts shouldn’t exceed .5″
  • Friday and into the weekend looks amazing
  • 60s should persist through Sunday
  • First lows in the 30s look possible Friday night; watch for patchy frost
