Discussion

This forecast period is really interesting, as each day will have its own relative focus/discussion. That hasn’t happened in….well, a long time!

Lets dive right in. The general pattern we will see the next few days is one of troughs marching in and through fairly quickly, as the pattern is relatively progressive and quick moving. Currently, a weak trough is moving through the region, and is producing some cloud cover across the region.

This will move through by this evening, and will act to give us cooler weather by tomorrow. We’ll be in between systems for the majority of tomorrow, but by tomorrow evening, the next trough will begin to head our way.

This looks to be dragging a weak cold front at the surface to the southwest of a surface low in southeastern/eastern Canada. This will likely bring with it a band of light showers along it, and should usher in some cooler temps on Thursday and into Friday.

In addition to this, it looks as if there will be an extra wind maxima in the upper level jet that will propagate into the region on Thursday evening and into the overnight hours. The placement of this (at this time) looks favorable for some light showers across the region. This is supported in the mid levels, and to a weaker extent in the lower levels of the atmosphere.

So, what does all of this mean for the forecast? Well, highs today should get into the upper 70s to around 80s degrees. If the clouds hang around longer than expected, 80 may be hard to reach. Overnight lows tonight should be in the lower 50s under clear skies.

Highs tomorrow look to be in the upper 70s, with lows tomorrow night falling into the upper 50s under cloudy skies. Thursday looks kinda crummy, with cloudy skies and showers being possible. Highs in the mid 60s. Overnight Thursday, anticipate isolated showers and lows in the mid 50s.

Extended Outlook

The pattern over the next week looks to become fairly active, as the guidance is pointing towards some stronger, deep troughs moving into the central and eastern US. These will likely provide precip, and a cool down after the front ends up moving through. We will see what happens, as I am not sure I buy into it just yet next week.
