Heat and Storms Dominate Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar

 Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday was another summertime day. We saw storms go up to our north, south, and east, and we ended up with no rain. Is the BG Bubble back? I’m not sure. However, there is a chance that it has returned.

Discussion

Well, very similar to past several days, the weather over the next few days will again be hot, humid and potentially stormy.

Looking at today’s forecast, we are looking at a higher threat for thunderstorms than the previous few days. We are sitting on the western portion of the ridge of high pressure, providing us with plenty of moisture to work with across the region as southeasterly flow in the mid-levels streams moisture into the region.

This will allow for thunderstorms to fire off this afternoon and evening, producing heavy rainfall in a moisture rich and fairly unstable environment. Lightning will also be a threat with these thunderstorms.

Highs this afternoon will end up in the lower 90s. Overnight tonight, look for mostly clear skies to develop after the storms die down. Lows in the mid 70s.

To start your workweek on Monday and Tuesday, the weather looks to be about the same. The ridge looks to begin weakening as its center begins to expand westward again.

This weakening trend will let temperatures relax a bit, but with the center of it expanding (relatively) westward again, expect the thunderstorm threat to decrease as well. Additionally, a trough should be developing across the eastern US by Tuesday afternoon, and this will begin to lead towards cooler weather this week.

Highs on both days will end up in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Look for overnight conditions to remain similar, but seeing mid 70s for lows on Monday night and upper 60s for lows on Tuesday night.

Extended Outlook

That trough I mentioned above looks as if it is gaining a bit of ground in the models, as the guidance shows a trough developing across the eastern US by Wednesday. This should cool us down for a bit, before another ridge develops.
