Due to a strong shortwave entering our region Saturday night and into Sunday morning, we will experience showers and storms out ahead of this system. I’m not going to say that today will be a total washout, but definitely bring an umbrella with you if you have any outdoor plans. There’s some slight disagreement between the weather models as to the timing of the rain, and whether these rain chances will be widespread or more scattered across the state.

Expect widespread thunderstorms to develop through the early morning hours, and then into the afternoon hours. With saturated grounds across the region, and lots of atmospheric moisture, watch for flash flooding in any heavy rainfall.

The WPC has up to an 1" of rainfall across the region. Anyone could see higher amount within thunderstorms, but a general 1-3" is likely. h/t WPC

Additionally, some severe thunderstorms look possible this afternoon. The shortwave moving into the region could be moving into an atmosphere that is unstable. There is some question about the extent of the instability, but in addition to plentiful moisture, and increasing shear, severe weather is a definite possibility. Damaging winds, hail and flash flooding are the highest risks today. The SPC placed us in a slight risk for this threat, and we will keep you updated as the day goes along.

It also looks like the rain chances will ramp up during the early evening hours tonight and then calm down in the overnight hours.

Sunday will start off a little wet as the trough axis will settle over our region, causing us to have some lingering showers. Once this trough axis moves through the area, we should start to see some clearing and no more rain. This will transition us into a nicer next couple of days with much drier weather conditions and lower temperatures.

Forecast valid Sunday 12Z

For Sunday, highs will be in the upper 70’s/low 80’s, and lows will be right around the 60 degree mark under mostly clear skies.

Monday – Sunny – High 81˚ / Monday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 61˚

After all this rain, Monday sure does look to be a super awesome day! Temperatures look to be a little below normal for the first half of the new work week, and it also looks to be much drier than this past week. Yay! Highs for Monday will be in the low 80’s under sunny skies, and lows will be in the low 60’s under mostly clear skies.

For the second half of the work week, we should return to normal or even above normal temperatures as we will be under the influence of a ridging pattern.
