Stormy Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today – Showers then T-Storms – High 75˚ / Tonight – T-Storms – Low 53˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! Hold on to your hats because there could be some crazy weather today!

A low pressure system will move through the area, bringing rain showers and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has put our area under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather today with hail and damaging winds as the main threat.

The first round of showers began moving through last night and will continue to move through this morning. This round of precipitation looks to end around mid/late morning. Once/if the cloud cover dissipates, we could see some sunshine for a few hours in the afternoon, which will increase atmospheric instability. More instability will ramp up the chances for severe thunderstorms to occur later this afternoon and evening.

Forecast valid Thursday 18Z

The cold front associated with this system will move through the region during late evening Thursday/ early morning Friday. Any severe storms that occur Thursday afternoon and evening will be associated with this cold front. The main threats with these severe thunderstorms are hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.

There will be enough shear to support severe thunderstorms, but instability could be lacking if the atmosphere doesn’t have time to destabilize after the morning rain. Because of this, there is some leeway with this forecast, as atmospheric instability can have a huge impact on the severity of the weather. Basically, whatever happens this morning will affect how the rest of today will pan out. So, stay updated on the current weather with your local tv meteorologists, @WxOrNotBG twitter, and the blog.
