More Rainy Weather in the Forecast for BG

Real-time Bowling Green radar:

Today 3/11 – Cloudy with possible scat’d showers – High 66/Tonight – Cloudy with scat’d showers – Low 60

Good Morning, Bowling Green! A cold front is passing through the area this morning and will drop temperatures slightly with highs in the mid 60s today. Scattered showers are possible as this front moves through.

Surface analysis valid 6am Friday (NOAA)

We are going to have a gross rinse & repeat forecast over the weekend with rain in the forecast every single day. A closed upper-level low in southern Texas is churning up moisture and sending it our direction. Luckily we will see a brief break in the rain showers today thanks to a high pressure system in the Great Lakes region that will keep most of the moisture south of Kentucky until tonight.

Closed low at 300mb valid 3pm Friday (Pivotal Weather)

Scattered showers are possible tonight as a warm front starts to work its way up from the south. This will bring warmer temperatures and more rain to BG for Saturday. Yay.

Saturday 3/12 – Cloudy with rain showers – High 76/ Saturday Night – Cloudy with rain showers – Low 61

As the closed upper-level low works its way eastward, it will pump warm air and moisture into the southeast Saturday. Precipitable water values will be higher on the east side of this low where southerly winds are pulling Gulf moisture northward. This, in association with a warm front moving through the area, will keep temperatures warmer Saturday despite the cloudy weather.

Precipitable water east of the closed low valid Noon Saturday (Pivotal Weather)

Thunderstorms, as well as localized heavy rainfall, are possible with this system as it passes. Rain showers will continue Saturday night as this system keeps moving eastward. QPFs are showing precipitation amounts near half an inch by Sunday morning.

24 hour QPF valid 6am Saturday thru 6am Sunday (Pivotal Weather)

Sunday 3/13 – Cloudy with scat’d showers – High 74/Sunday Night – Cloudy with scat’d showers – Low 57

You guessed it – Sunday is looking like another gloomy, rainy day for BG. The slow-moving closed low will gradually move closer to the area adding to the warm air, moisture, and lift necessary for rain showers and thunderstorms.

Surface analysis valid 7am Sunday (Pivotal Weather)

A cold front associated with the low pressure system will pass through Sunday night making temperatures slightly cooler for Monday. Don’t expect the sunshine to come back for a while, but hey – this just makes it feel more like spring, right?
