Today 12/10 – Sunny – High 64/Tonight – Partly cloudy – Low 50
Good morning, Bowling Green! I hope you like the warmer weather because this weekend is going to be unseasonably warm by almost 30 degrees. Southerly winds wrapping around a low pressure system to the north will increase warm air advection over our area today and tomorrow, helping with the drastic warm up this weekend.
Temperatures will be in the mid 60s today but prepare yourself for even warmer temperatures over the next few days. It definitely does not feel like Christmas time!
Friday 12/11 – Cloudy; chance of PM scat’d showers – High 68/Friday Night – Cloudy; scat’d showers – Low 60
Friday we’ll really start seeing the low level jet stream pumping warm, humid air into our area from the Gulf. This low level jet will only increase over the weekend giving us 70 degree weather and dew points in the low 60s.
There is a chance for some light scattered showers Friday afternoon and overnight, so keep that in mind if you go out. There are quite a few local events going on this weekend and while some people will want to rock their ugly Christmas sweaters, you might want to stick with a t-shirt instead.
Saturday 12/12 – Cloudy & Unseasonably warm – High 72/Saturday Night – Cloudy – Low 60
Saturday will be VERY warm with temperatures close to 30 degrees warmer than normal. The low level jet will keep strengthening and dew points will be around 60 degrees in some places. It will definitely make it feel like mid-Spring in southern Kentucky and not mid-December.
What’s causing this crazy warm-up? We have a very large ridge over our area in the upper levels keeping cold air trapped way up in Canada. There is, however an equally impressive trough following behind it which means a cool-down will eventually make its way over to us, thank goodness.
For those like me and wish the cold would come back, perhaps later next week?
