The low pressure system that impacted the southeast on Wednesday has moved north and is wreaking havoc over Lake Erie. In a news release from yesterday, a wind warning was in effect for areas around the Great Lakes with potential wind gusts over 50 mph. These strong winds have not only been causing power outages and structural damage, but they have also caused a seiche, or standing wave, over Lake Erie.

This seiche is causing flooding along the shoreline of Lake Erie which in turn has closed roadways and has caused even more damage to surrounding areas already being impacted by the strong winds.

This storm will keep churning over the Great Lakes region during the weekend providing wind gusts and flooding in areas near Lake Erie. Buffalo is a main concern for flooding due to the orientation of the wind being almost parallel to the lake, increasing the seiche on the eastern side.
