Here at WxOrNotBG, we have begun to implement a new post every Sunday evening previewing the week ahead. In light of that, I am going to begin posting a review of the previous week each Saturday night, highlighting the major events that occurred, etc. So, with that being said, here is your *cue awesome music* WxOrNotBG Week in review for August 23rd through the 30th.
First of all, shoutout to this past week for being incredibly busy, and for it being the first week of the semester. You made it really hard to focus on everything.
Anyways, it was an AWESOME first week of the semester. I haven’t experienced a week like this past one in a long time. It felt so good outside all week, and that just doesn’t happen often in August….except for this year.
I feel like the past month has been full of very, very nice days. It’s been like opening the best Christmas gift 8 gifts in. It makes it all the better. This month turned out really nice, but not even close to what last week was.
Last week features sunshine, cumulus clouds, 70s, low dewpoints, NO RAIN, and amazingness. It essentially tortured us because we all really want to be outside; instead, we are all working.
The walks on campus were awesome, and it was nice to have a cooler week to use to get acclimated to the new semester. The week didn’t even feature tons of sweat! Thats the best part. My first week on campus last year was filled with extreme heat and sweat. Lots of sweat. This week, though, it was almost perfect.
I feel like I have emphasized that a lot throughout this post. But, what else is there to say? Last week was awesome.
Worldwide, the tropics decided to go insane. The Atlantic had three tropical systems either cycle or form over the past week, and the trend has continued. Tropical Storm Erika was the worst organized tropical cyclone I have seen in a long time.
Sure looks like Erika is “fizzling out” this morning. pic.twitter.com/6CF88Q61Sg

THAT caused the Governor of Florida to lose his mind, and issue a state of emergency on a system that didn’t even look like it would be that bad for them.
Don’t understand why #Florida issued a State of Emergency so early. If west/weak trends continues, FL may not even get heavy rain! #Erika

The storm wasn’t overly large, so even if it had become a hurricane, surge wouldn’t have been a huge factor. Erika was an excellent example of the way that people’s perceptions of strength/impacts can be changed after a drought of something.
In the Pacific Ocean, there are not one, or two, but three Major Hurricanes churning up the water out there at the same time. This is the first time in recorded history that this has happened in the eastern/central Pacific.

The storms were incredibly beautiful, and provide awesome scenery without feeling bad. The worst of the storms will skirt to the north and east of Hawaii, and will deliver waves out to the islands.
Well, thats all for this week in weather! Who knows what will happen next week….
