**Areal Flood WARNING remains in effect for all of south central Kentucky until 8:15pm**
Heavy rain is impacting the area, resulting in flooded businesses and roads, along with other concerns across south central Kentucky. The rain is not coinciding very well with snow and ice on roadways, keeping them rather slick.
Report of multiple vehicles off the road all over. Some buried in “..ice and snow mix.” according to scanner traffic.

The slickest paths are side and backroads, however, there are plenty of primary travel routes suffering as well. As if that weren’t bad enough, flooding/ponding of water on roads is also taking place.

Another growing concern is rain causing snowpacks on top of roofs to compact, making the weight too much to handle. There have been reports of collapsed structures across central Kentucky.
We’ve had reports of structure collapses in Warren and LaRue cos. in central KY due to added weight of rain/sleet on top of snow pack. #kywx

Rain will continue through the rest of the day, with total amounts ranging from 1-3+” across the area. The HRRR Simulated Radar model below is valid for noon today. As you can see, there’s plenty of moisture on the way, as our “atmospheric river” flows in from the southwest:
Believe it or not, we might see a very brief changeover back to snow late tonight, as temps plummet before the precipitation moves out. Any accumulations will be minor, if anything. Regardless, with wet pavement in place, slick spots will be inevitable as temps drop below freezing tonight.
Please avoid traveling until conditions improve. If you see water over roadways, DO NOT attempt to cross. Remember: “TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!” Have a great day, and stay safe.
