This Afternoon – Sunny & Mild – High 42˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 28˚

We’ve been under the influence of high pressure today, which has resulted in mostly sunny skies across south central Kentucky.  Much of the same can be expected through the remainder of the afternoon, as highs top out around 40˚.

Tonight, we’ll keep it calm & quiet, with lows tumbling to the upper 20s.

Wed 2/4 – Increasing Clouds; Breezy – High 52˚ / Wed Night – SNOWMAHGAWD – Low 24˚

Our Wednesday start out with very similar conditions to what we’ve experienced much of today.  Partly to mostly sunny skies will be joined by southerly winds of 5-10 mph, resulting in afternoon highs climbing into the low 50s.  That all sounds nice and dandy, however, cloud coverage will be on the increase, ahead of our next weather maker, which could shake things up across the area.

Our conditions will begin to take a turn for the worse on Wednesday night.  An approaching cold front will help pull available moisture into the region, which will slide southeast across the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Temps will have the rug pulled out from under them as a result, plummeting nearly 20˚ while you sleep.  The following 4km NAM temperature model loops every 3 hours from 6pm Wednesday night – 6am Thursday morning.  This gives you an illustration of what we can expect:

A transition from rain to moderate snow is anticipated late Wednesday evening behind the cold front, with the potential for minor snow accumulations.  At this point in time, a dusting to 1″ of the white stuff seems reasonable by dawn Thursday, if anything.  It doesn’t look like too much to get excited about.

The latest SREF snow probability map continues to favor the idea of this snow becoming a realization.  It now paints a 60-70% probability for at least 1″ of snow across south central Kentucky through 9am Thursday morning.

Accumulation amounts aren’t the concern, it’s the timing of the snow.  The latest guidance has it impacting our area from around 11pm Wednesday night through 5-6am Thursday morning.  Should this take place, we’ll be looking at travel issues for the morning commute.  Temperatures are expected to be well below freezing through much of the event, allowing whatever falls to stick to the roads.

Thu 2/5 – Scat’d AM Snow Showers – High 33˚ / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 15˚

Lingering snow showers look to hang around through the early part of our Thursday, with clouds breaking up through the afternoon.  It will be a bitterly cold day, similar to what we experienced on Monday.  Northerly winds will join highs in the lower 30s, with overnight lows dropping to the mid teens.
