New Year’s Eve Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

New Year’s Eve – Mostly Sunny – High 32º / Tonight – Mostly Clear; Cold – Low 20º

Good morning, Bowling Green! Happy New Year’s Eve! The last day of 2014 will be a cold one, as surface high pressure makes its way eastward towards our region. This strong high will continue to bring cool, dry air to much of the United States, as an arctic airmass plunges southward.

In particular, Bowling Green will be flirting with the freezing line, as highs struggle to reach the low 30s(the normal for this time of year is 45°). Some cloud cover may prevent us from reaching the 32° mark, but mostly sunny skies look to dominate the majority of the day today. Winds will be coming from the north at around 5 mph, which could cause the air to feel even cooler.

Tonight will be much of the same… Calm and COLD. With the exception of a few clouds, skies should remain mostly clear, allowing lows to plummet into the upper teens and low 20s. Winds will become calm, but if you’re planning on going out to ring in 2015, be sure to dress accordingly!

Happy New Year!

The next disturbance will come into play late Thursday night for those of here us in Bowling Green. During the day Thursday, an upper-level trough (dip in the jet stream) will begin to define itself around the four corners, setting us up for some precipitation into the weekend.

A slight chance of a wintry mix is possible Thursday night, as temperatures hit right around the freezing mark into the early morning hours Friday. This could cause some slick spots due to the combination of rain, freezing rain, and even possible sleet during the overnight hours.

Friday, 1/2 – Wintry Mix Early, Transitioning to Rain – High 40º / Friday Night – Rain Likely  – Low 37º

On Friday, temperatures will warm above freezing by mid-morning, causing precipitation to switch to rain for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will be similar to the 1st, reaching right around 40° for the high. Rain chances will become more widespread moving into Friday night, as moisture begins nosing in from the Gulf. Temperatures will stay in the mid to upper-30s Friday night, allowing rainfall to remain the precipitation type for our area.

Below is a map of the predicted precipitation amounts from 6PM Friday through 6PM Sunday. More details on your weekend weather in the forecast posts to come!
