Cold Conditions For Bowling Green Weather

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Sunny; Chilly – High 38º/ Tonight – Partly Cloudy; Cold — Low 23º

3pm 38º – 6pm 34º – 9pm 30º – 12am 26º – 3am 24º – 6am 23º

Despite the ample amounts of sunshine today, temperatures have struggled to reach the 40 degree mark this afternoon across southern Kentucky. Strong surface high pressure is diving southeastward across the northern Plains today while taking sole responsibility for the unseasonably cold but sunny conditions.

We’ll remain pretty quiet into the evening and overnight hours as temperatures drop off. A few clouds will be possible as partly cloudy skies take over. Otherwise, look for cold conditions as temperatures bottom out in the lower 20’s by early Wednesday morning. Light winds will persist through this period with wind chill values in the upper teens, lower 20’s.

Wed – Mostly Sunny; Cold – High 32º / Wed Night – Mostly Clear; Cold – Low 20º

By New Year’s Eve, even drier and colder air will work into the Commonwealth as the aforementioned surface high pressure edges closer to the region. Winds will remain from our north around 5-10 mph during the day giving wind chill values (feel like temperatures) in the mid 20’s. Mostly sunny skies will prevail but have little effect on high temperatures.

Some of the coldest air we’ve had since mid-November will arrive by New Year’s Eve/Day. Mostly clear skies will dominate the region thanks to the high pressure to the west as winds also calm during this period. In return, lows will dip into the lower 20’s with some sheltered/valley areas hitting the upper teens. One thing is for sure, if you have any plans Wednesday night, you better dress accordingly! Outside of the cold weather, Happy New Year!

Thu – Mostly Sunny; Cool – High 41º / Thu Night – Mostly Cloudy; Light Wintry Mix – Low 30º

The first day of the New Year will be a chilly one. The benign weather pattern will continue throughout the day as chilly temperatures win out. Highs will reach the lower 40’s for Bowling Green weather under mostly sunny skies.

Mid-high level clouds will increase Thursday afternoon/night. This will be ahead of the next disturbance expected to strengthen across the Gulf States. A low pressure will develop and push northeastward towards the region late Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Temperatures will fall at or just below freezing as a light wintry mix will be possible. The good news is the colder air will quickly warm above freezing as a slug of warmer, moister air pushes northward from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow a quick transition back to all rainfall for Friday.
