While our region of the world has been facing severe weather, Australia has taken a hit of their own. Flooding, damaging winds, and even snow wreaked havoc on Sydney, as a major storm passed through the area Tuesday night (local time). 30,000 homes were without power, and 40 flood rescues took place in and around the southern suburbs of Sydney. Wind gusts of 160 kilometers (99 miles) per hour were recorded south of Sydney, while snowfall of 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) caused road closures in the Blue Mountains northwest of Sydney (ABC News). Keep in mind, it’s spring down under in the southern hemisphere!
