WKU Storm Chase Day 6

Well, you win some and you lose some and unfortunately yesterday we did not get to see any severe storms. The instability, moisture, and low-end wind shear needed for storms were all present in south Texas but the U.S.-Mexico border quickly became the biggest thorn in our side. We departed south from Odessa yesterday and made our way to the town of Sanderson, Texas which is about 18 miles north of the border. One lone supercell was cranking across the area for nearly 8 hours, but it spent most of its time in Mexico which meant that we were unable to chase it.

We stayed in Sanderson for a good part of the afternoon hoping to catch any more convection that fired across southwest Texas but we sat in some fog and mist in the bottom of a valley which was definitely not going to yield much severe weather.

Around dinnertime we called it a day and headed back to Odessa, Texas for the night. Today we will have to choose whether to continue chasing in Texas or start traveling to the northern plains to get in position for later this week. Be sure to keep up with us on Twitter by following @wkustormchase.
