Today 5/26 – Isolated Showers/Storms – High 87° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 66°
Today’s weather will feature very warm temperatures into the mid to upper 80s across the region. The surface high pressure system and associated mid-level ridging will be moving to the east of the region today. This will mean our upper level winds will be out of the southwest during the day. This will help usher in the warmer temperatures across the region.
Along with the emergence of high temperatures, more moisture will also be in company. This yields to at least a chance of some isolated showers and thunderstorms across the region. The rain will not be widespread, thus not everyone will receive rainfall. We’re in a pretty summer-like pattern, so any storms that do form will be capable of producing abundant lightning and heavy rain. Be sure to get under shelter in the event of a thunderstorm. Tonight, we should see the activity diminish as we lose energy from the sun.
Tuesday 5/27 – Isolated Showers/Storms – High 87° / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 64°
On Tuesday we’ll see an upper level trough dig to the south of the region. This trough will be relatively weak in nature. However, we can’t rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm. Coverage will be about the same as Monday. Some places may see a good pop-up thunderstorm, whereas other places remain dry.
One thing to note is that lower pressure will be working into the region on Tuesday. This may enhance lift, causing more showers and thunderstorms to form. However, with that being said, I am going to stick to just isolated chances of showers and thunderstorms. This part of the forecast will need to be fine-tuned in the coming forecast posts.
On Tuesday night, we’ll see a general decrease in thunderstorm activity as the sun begins to set. You can expect partly cloudy skies with lows in the mid 60s. Sounds like a good night for a fire, maybe some karaoke as well…just not together?
Wednesday 5/28 – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 85° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 65°
On Wednesday, you’ll find our forecast remains relatively the same. The pesky closed off upper level low continues to swirl about the southern United States. This again will lead to a chance of thunderstorms across the region. They will remain scattered in nature, and widespread thunderstorms are not expected.
Although the thunderstorms are expected to be more numerous, severe weather is not expected across the region at this time. Any thunderstorms that form will have the potential to create vivid lightning and heavy rain. On Wednesday night we’ll see a general decrease in thunderstorm activity. There are some indications that a surface low will move into the region on Thursday, causing a bit more concern for widespread thunderstorms, but we’ll save that for another forecast.
