Friday Afternoon Update

Dog excited to go outside.

Yep…it’s that nice outside.

Today 3/21 – Sunny & Partly Cloudy – High 71˚ / Tonight – Iso’d Showers – Low 48˚

3pm 70˚ ~ 6pm 59˚ ~ 12pm 51˚ ~ 3pm 50˚ ~ 6pm 49˚ ~ 9pm 48˚

As everyone probably knows, it is a gorgeous afternoon across south central Kentucky with high temperatures approaching 70 degrees this afternoon. Gusty southerly winds around 10-15 mph continue to pump warm air into our area and because of the high winds and low relative humidities, there is a threat for wildfire danger this afternoon. It is important to remember not to start any outdoor fires on days like this.

Unfortunately, this perfect weather has to come to an end sometime and there are some changes ahead for the weekend as a cold front associated with an area of low pressure to our north will move east across Kentucky tonight. Some high clouds have developed this afternoon and these will probably increase as we head into the evening. The cold front will move over us overnight and there is a chance for some isolated showers late tonight into early Saturday. In addition to bringing in the chance for a few showers the cold front will usher in norherly winds and some colder air for Saturday.

Sat – Partly Cloudy – Iso’d Showers – High 60˚ / Sat Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 34˚

After clouds clear out a bit by midmorning, partly cloudy skies and high temperatures around 60 degrees are on tap for Saturday. As we head into Saturday night, some moisture moving in from our south will bring another chance of showers. Showers will be a little more likely on Saturday night with better coverage than tonight, but precipitation amounts still look pretty light. Here is a look at the latest NAM model, which shows rain showers moving into the area after 9pm tomorrow night:

Sun – Partly Sunny – High 47˚ / Sun Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 26˚

As the cold front finally pushes east of Kentucky on Sunday, northwest winds will usher in some unseasonably cold temperatures. Skies will be partly cloudy but high temperatures will struggle to even reach 50 degrees and lows Sunday night will dip into the 20s. This is no way to end the weekend, and unfortunately the chilly temperatures will last into next week. All the more reason to get outside and enjoy your Friday.
