Spring’s Official Arrival

Today 3/20 – Sunny & NICE – High 61˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 35˚

3pm 60˚ ~ 6pm 52˚ ~ 9pm 45˚ ~ 12am 41˚ ~ 3am 38˚ ~ 6am 35˚

Today is the official first day of spring and the weather seems to have gotten the memo. It is a beautiful day all across southern Kentucky with mostly clear skies and temperatures rising to around 60 degrees by this afternoon.

High pressure is the reason for today’s beautiful weather and skies will remain mostly clear tonight as well. We will have another chilly night as temperatures will drop into the 30s overnight. Later tonight a warm front will pass over us and winds will shift from the west to the south.

Fri – Sunny & NICER – High 71˚ / Fri Night – Iso’d Showers – Low 47˚

Southerly winds will continue to increase on Friday as southern Kentucky sits in the warm sector of an area of low pressure to our northwest.  Winds look to be around 10-20 mph with a few gusts as high as 30 mph. This will help temperatures climb into the lower 70s by tomorrow afternoon.

By Friday evening, a few clouds could begin to move in as the cold front to our west begins pushing east. This cold front will be very weak due to zonal flow aloft providing little upper level support for this system. A few isolated showers are possible late Friday night, but it looks like most will stay dry Friday night. Cloud cover will keep low temperatures in the upper 40s.

Sat – Iso’d Showers, Cloudy – High 60˚ / Sat Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 36˚

Isolated showers will be a possibility once again on Saturday as the cold front will be slow to move eastward. Showers will be hit or miss during the day on Saturday and temperatures will rise to around 60 degrees under cloudy skies.

Model guidance has been hinting at a more organized area of precipitation impacting Kentucky before the cold front moves east on Saturday night. For now, scattered showers are expected with precipitation amounts less than a quarter inch. Here is a map from the WPC showing expected precipitation amounts through Sunday morning:

WPC Day 3 QPF valid from 6AM Thursday through 6AM Sunday.

Rain will end by late Saturday night and colder air will move into our area. Temperatures on Sunday will struggle to reach 50 degrees and much of the same looks to be on tap for early next week so be sure to enjoy the warm weather over the next few days.

We will continue to monitor the forecast, and keep an eye on the rain chances for this weekend. For more frequent updates, you can follow @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!
