Sunny Today; Snow Chances Tomorrow

jimmy

Sunshine must be back in the forecast.

Today 2/13 – Mostly Sunny – High 49˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 27˚

6am 18˚ ~ 9am 30˚ ~ 12pm 42˚ ~ 3pm 49˚ ~ 6pm 36˚ ~ 9pm 32˚

Sunny skies will be on tap today, thanks to a ridge building north over our proximity.  Light winds out of the southwest will help take temperature values into the low – mid 40s.  Here’s a look at the current surface conditions across the Continental US:

Tonight, moisture will advect into the area, resulting in an increase in cloud cover.  This will be in response to our next disturbance, which is expected to move in on Friday.

Fri – Scat’d Wintry Mix – High 39˚ / Fri Night – Iso’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 18˚

A shortwave disturbance is slated to dive southeast across the area to end the work week, which will combine with available moisture to create a scattered wintry mix of rain, sleet & snow.

Temperature trends will be the key to what type of precip we experience.  As for now, a cold front looks to pass to our southeast by midday, which will send values falling through the afternoon.

This could result in a period of all snow.  The following NAM precip type model is valid from 9am – 9pm Friday, and likes the idea of snow impacting south central Kentucky.  This should give you a better idea of how this system will behave:

As far as accumulations are concerned, I don’t think we’ll see much of anything.  If we do get in on the action, minor amounts will be plausible (spotty dusting – 1″).  I’ll continue to monitor the latest data and keep you in the loop.  I’m sure it will alter between today and tomorrow.

Sat – Partly Sunny – High 42˚ / Sat Night – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 33˚

High pressure will build in as we get into Saturday.  This should bring goodies along with it…rays of sunshine.  Light northerly winds will keep temps suppressed to around the 40˚ mark.  on Saturday night, another disturbance will track across northern Kentucky, which could clip us with a few isolated snow showers.  This event looks to be of little to no concern.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  Stay in touch with @Wx_Or_Not & @WarrenCountyWx for the latest weather information.  Have a great Thursday, and soak in those rays of sun as you do so.  If you don’t, you’ll be regretting it come tomorrow.  Thanks for reading.
