Winter Weather Update

This Afternoon – Rain to Wintry Mix – 35˚ & Falling / Tonight – Wintry Mix to Snow – Low 28˚

**Winter Storm Warning for Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Simpson & Warren County from 5pm this afternoon – 6am Monday**

**Winter Weather Advisory for Allen & Barren County from 5pm this afternoon – 6am Monday.**

Much of the day has progressed as expected.  A cold front currently resides to our southeast, which is in the process of stalling out near the Appalachian Mountains.  A potent shortwave disturbance is ejecting northeast toward our area, as temperature values continue to fall.

Scattered rain showers will slowly make a transition to a wintry mix as we get into this evening, with an eventual changeover to all snow expected overnight.  Check out the current surface setup below to get a better idea of how this weather maker is behaving:

Roadways are anticipated to become hazardous, so for everyone attending super bowl parties, please exercise caution when traveling to and from your destination.  I’ve already received reports of snowfall in Beaver Dam, and sleet in Morgantown, so I expect the changeover to occur within the next hour here in Bowling Green.

The latest data has suggested an increase in snowfall amounts, and I’ve decided to fluctuate my outlook just a tad.  I believe much of the area could see anywhere between a dusting and 3″ of ice & snow, with isolated locations potentially seeing 3-4+”.  This aligns with the NWS thinking as well:

Again…travel will become very hazardous as time progresses.  Please use caution if you must be out.  That’s all I’ve got for now.  I’ll be updating through Twitter for the rest of this event, so be sure to stay in touch with me @Wx_Or_Not.  Have a safe night.  Thanks for reading.
