Friday Afternoon Update

Friday Afternoon?  Let’s get outta here.

This Afternoon – Iso’d Snow Showers, Breezy – High 25˚ / Tonight – Flurries – Low 16˚

3pm 25˚ ~ 6pm 24˚ ~ 9pm 23˚ ~ 12am 20˚ ~ 3am 19˚ ~ 6am 16˚

Sporadic, isolated snow showers will continue to pester the region this afternoon, as westerly winds of 10-20mph howl.  No additional accumulation is expected.  Judging from reports today, the forecast was dead on, with the majority of people receiving between a dusting – 1″ of the white stuff.

Temperature values in the lower – mid 20s will have a real feel windchill in the lower teens.  Overnight, lingering flurries will taper off, with partly cloudy skies taking over after midnight.  Here’s a look at the current surface conditions.  The cold front is to our east, with widely scattered snow swaths filtering in from the northwest:

Surface Model Valid 2pm
Surface Model Valid 2pm

Sat – Partly Cloudy, Breezy – High 39˚ / Sat Night – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 26˚

A lull in disturbances should produce a mix of sun and clouds to start out our Saturday, with winds shifting back out of the south, which will send temps back into the upper 30s.

Another clipper system will dive southeast within a broad upper trough Saturday night, reintroducing those annoying, sporadic snow showers to the forecast once again.  As far as accumulations are concerned,we might see minor amounts like today…nothing worth taking the milk or bread man hostage over.  The GFS precip loop gives you an idea of how this system will behave:

GFS Precip Model Loop Valid 6am Saturday - 6am Sunday
GFS Precip Model Loop Valid 6am Saturday – 6am Sunday

Sun – Partly Sunny – High 45˚ / Sun Night – Clear – Low 25˚

High pressure nudging in from the south will help provide us with partly to mostly sunny skies, which will coincide with southerly winds to send temperatures into the mid 40s.  Gradual clearing looks to take place throughout the day, with clear skies in place by Sunday night.

That’s all I’ve got.  Stay in touch with me @Wx_Or_Not for more real-time updates.  Ryan Difani will be here all weekend to make sure you’re taken care of.  Have a great end to the work week, stay safe, and thanks for reading.
