Beleaguering Weather Continues

Today 1/16 – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers; Breezy – High 42˚ / Thu Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 25˚

6am 23˚ ~ 9am 32˚ ~ 12pm 38˚ ~ 3pm 42˚ ~ 6pm 38˚ ~ 9pm 35˚

A series of weak clipper disturbances will impact south central Kentucky over the coming days.  To kick things off this morning, a low pressure system will dive SE across the Great Lakes, swinging an associated cold front toward south central Kentucky.

Southerly winds amping up ahead of this boundary will transition scattered snow showers to a mix of rain & snow by this afternoon, before plummeting temperatures behind the front transition this mix back to lingering snow showers late tonight.

Minor accumulations will be possible, which could create traveling concerns.  The best chance at seeing snow gather on the ground will be overnight.  The NAM simulated radar model below is valid  from 6am this morning – 6am Friday in 6-hour increments.  It helps illustrate how this weather maker could evolve:

NAM Simulated Radar Valid 6am Thu - 6am Fri
NAM Simulated Radar Valid 6am Thu – 6am Fri

Fri – Scat’d Snow Showers; Breezy – High 28˚ / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 17˚

Lingering snow showers Friday morning should taper off to partly cloudy skies by evening, as westerly winds howl around 10-20mph..  Again…sporadic, light accumulations will be possible.  Nothing to panic about.

We look to take a short break from the activity Friday night, before another wave of energy arrives on Saturday, bringing yet another opportunity for scattered, light snow.

Take accumulation amounts lightly.  Much like we experienced yesterday, how much snow falls will be determined by your location.  Nothing significant is expected, but minor amounts could lead to slick travel this evening and tonight.  These disturbances are simply not easy to forecast…just being honest.
