Wednesday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Scat’d Flurries – High 32˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 19˚

Scattered flurries will stick around through this afternoon, as an upper trough and associated surface boundary advances to our east.  Overnight, weak ridging will provide partly cloudy skies, allowing lows to tumble into the upper teens.  Here’s a look at current surface conditions…notice the boundary (dashed, yellow line) that’s accompanying scattered flurries:

Difficult forecast in place for the remainder of the week.  Our pattern of being impacted by weak disturbances looks to stick around through Saturday.  To kick things off Thursday morning, a low pressure system will dive SE across the Great Lakes, swinging an associated cold front toward south central Kentucky.

Southerly winds amping up ahead of this boundary will transition scattered snow showers to a mix of rain & snow Thursday afternoon, before plummeting temperatures behind the front transitions this mix back to snow Thursday night.  Minor accumulations will be possible, which could create traveling concerns.  The GFS precip model below, valid 6am Thursday – 6am Friday, helps illustrate how this weather maker may behave:

Fri – Scat’d Snow Showers – High 28˚ / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 17˚

Lingering snow showers Friday morning should taper off to partly cloudy skies by evening.  Again, sporadic, light accumulations will be possible.  We look to take a short break from the activity Friday night, before our next wave of energy arrives on Saturday, bringing yet another shot at light snow.

Take accumulation amounts with a grain of salt.  Much like we’ve witnessed today, how much you see will be determined by your location.  Nothing significant is expected, however, minor amounts could cause slick travel.  These disturbances we’re dealing with are a real pain to nail down…just being honest.
