Warm & Damp

funny

…like I didn’t know the first thing you thought of after reading the title.  Grow up.

Today 1/13 – Scat’d Showers, Breezy – High 52˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 33˚

6am 49˚ ~ 9am 50˚ ~ 12pm 51˚ ~ 3pm 52˚ ~ 6pm 49˚ ~ 9pm 45˚

Southerly winds of 10-15mph will usher in a mild, moist airmass ahead of an approaching cold front.  Sufficient moisture will combine with weak forcing from the front to produce light, scattered showers across Bowling Green and surrounding areas.  Total rainfall amounts for today should range from .25 – .75″.  A few localized areas may even top 1″.

Here’s a look at the current surface model to give you a better understanding of what’s exactly going on:

Surface Model Valid 6am 1/13/14
Surface Model Valid 6am

Showers will taper off as we get into the night, leaving partly cloudy skies to be accompanied by westerly winds around 5-10mph.

Tues – Iso’d Showers, Breezy – High 50˚ / Tues Night – Wintry Mix to Light Snow – Low 26˚

SNOMG!!!  Chill out.

A low pressure system (alberta clipper) looks to dive southeast out of Canada on Tuesday, which will send an associated cold front southeast toward the region.  Out ahead of this boundary, southwesterly breezes will amp up to 10-20mph.  Combine this with a few rays of sunshine early on, and we’ll be looking at highs returning to the lower 50s for another day.

Things will get interesting on Tuesday night, as the Alberta clipper system propagates east across the Great Lakes.  Isolated showers during the afternoon look to potentially transition to a light, scattered wintry mix…perhaps even light snow, as temperature profiles begin to tumble after sunset.  The GFS precip model below is valid from 12pm Tues – 6am Wed in 6 hour increments.  This gives you some idea of how the system may behave:

GFS Precip Model Valid 12pm Tues - 6am Wed
GFS Precip Model Valid 12pm Tues – 6am Wed

Moisture parameters aren’t all that impressive at the moment.  Sorry, folks, I won’t be mentioning any potential accumulation amounts until tomorrow.  It looks to be minor…at best.

Wed – Partly Sunny – High 32˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 23˚

Lingering moisture should begin to filter out of the area Wednesday morning, supplementing a mix of sun and clouds to go along with much colder conditions.  Northerly winds filtering in behind the previous night’s disturbance will cast a spell of deceit on any rays of sun that make it through.  Highs will be limited to the lower 30s.  Lay the winter clothes back out, folks.

That’s all I’ve got for you this morning.  Stay connected with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent updates.  Have a great day, and don’t forget that umbrella.
