Friday afternoon commute…

This Afternoon – Iso’d Showers – High 55˚ / Tonight – Rain Likely, BREEZY – Low 50˚

3pm 53˚ ~ 6pm 53˚ ~ 9pm 53˚ ~ 12am 54˚ ~ 3am 52˚ ~ 6am 51˚

A surface low is located over the Great Plains, and is cutting a path northeastward toward the Great Lakes.  In response to this, an associated cold front will approach and pass west to east across our proximity tonight.  Deep moisture streaming from the Gulf will supplement widespread rain showers over all of south central Kentucky through this time.  A rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out.  Winds will gusts between 15-25mph.  Have a look at the model below for a better illustration of what’s actually happening:

Precipitable water values with this weather maker will be quite impressive, given the time of year.  Luckily, the fast speed of the system should prevent any flood concerns.  With that being said, rainfall amounts won’t disappoint…ranging from .50 – 1.25″ by the time it’s all said and done early Saturday morning.  Here’s what the NAM thinks will happen with the precipitation.  This loop is valid from 9pm this evening – 9am Saturday morning in 3-hour increments:

Sat – Scat’d AM Showers – High 50˚ / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 33˚

The cold front is expected to be well east of the area by midday Saturday, causing any lingering showers to taper off from west to east.  I think we’ll experience a break up in the cloud deck through the afternoon, with skies clearing out late tomorrow night.  High temperatures will remain in the lower 50s tomorrow.  If we can get a few rays of sun, it will be pleasantly nice.

Sun – Sunny & Breezy – High 53˚ / Sun Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 39˚

Go fishing.  Go walk in a park.  Walk the dog.  Go Hiking.  Go Outside. Get it?  That’s about all I have to say.

High pressure will keep a quiet weather story in place for Sunday.  Moderate, southerly winds of 10-15mph will coincide with rays of sunshine to send temperature values into the lower – mid 50s.  Again, if you’re an outdoorsman, this day would be the day to do what you do.

We’ll remain quiet Sunday night, before our next disturbance moves in on Monday.  It doesn’t look like a soaker, however, scattered showers look like a good bet to start out the work week.

That’s what I’m made of, folks.  Ryan Difani will be here all weekend to keep you up to date on how our conditions are shaping up.  Stay connected with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent information.  Everyone have a great, safe weekend.  Thanks for reading.
