Widespread Rain Arrives Tonight

Today 1/10 – Iso’d Showers – High 55˚ / Tonight – Rain & Storms Likely – Low 47˚

6am 38˚ ~ 9am 43˚ ~ 12pm 52˚ ~ 3pm 54˚ ~ 6pm 50˚ ~ 9pm 49˚

Partly to mostly cloudy skies will accompany isolated showers today, as a low pressure system propagates northeast into the Ohio Valley.  As this takes place, we may luck out and get a few rays of sunshine.  Combine this with southerly winds of 5-10mph, and temperatures should navigate into the mid – upper 50s across south central Kentucky this afternoon.

Tonight, a cold front will approach from the west, which will supplement a feed of moisture into the region.  This will result in widespread showers (potentially with a few embedded storms) overnight.  Nothing severe is expected.  Precipitable water values will be very high for this time of year, pushing 1.3-1.5″.  This equates to the potential for heavy rainfall.

The NAM simulated radar loop below is valid from 6pm this evening – 6am Saturday morning in 3-hour increments.  This gives you an idea of how this scenario may play out.  The precip shield will develop out ahead of the cold front:

Sat – Scat’d AM Showers – High 54˚ / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 31˚

Cold front will progress to our east, taking lingering showers along with it.  We’ll keep a few spotty showers around through mid morning, with clouds expected to break up as we get into the afternoon.  Total rainfall amounts through this time are expected to range between .50 – 1″.  Localized areas may see more.

Temperature wise, we’ll be enjoying very mild values, ranging from the lower – mid 50s.  Sounds like a good afternoon for fishing.  I recommend leaving your cameraman at home:

A shortwave ridge aloft is evolving well with the latest data valid for Sunday.  This looks to provide stellar conditions for us to enjoy.  Partly to mostly sunny skies will be joined by highs returning to the 50s, making for a fantastic afternoon.
