Winter Returns

The frigid cold will warrant dwarf beards today.  If you have one, wear it.

Today 1/2 – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – High 36˚ / Tonight – Decreasing Clouds – Low 16˚

6am 38˚ ~ 9am 34˚ ~ 12pm 31˚ ~ 3pm 28˚ ~ 6pm 25˚ ~ 9pm 22˚

Low pressure will cut a path northeast across south central Kentucky this morning,  bringing with it a mixed bag of precipitation.  Scat’d rain and snow showers are currently present across the region, as temps reside above freezing.  The GFS loop below showcases this system’s expected track from 6am this morning – 12am Friday in 6-hour increments:

GFS Precip Type Loop 6am Thursday - 12am Friday
GFS Precip Type Loop 6am Thursday – 12am Friday

As the day progresses, this system will push to our east, creating blustery, 15-30mph winds to go along with plummeting temperatures.  This may very well result in wind chills falling to the lower teens…perhaps single digits late this afternoon and evening.  If you’re still confused…DRESS WARM!

A transition to all snow is expected to take place mid morning – early afternoon.  Minor accumulations of sporadic dusting – 1″ will be possible in and around Bowling Green, with those located to our northwest possibly seeing up to 1-2″.  I’m a snow lover, so hopefully I’m wrong.  I’m not getting that vibe from the latest data, though.  Those along the Ohio River stand the best chance at seeing snow gather on the ground.

Fri – Partly Sunny – High 30˚ / Fri Night – Clear – Low 18˚

High pressure will build in and take control, and we’ll have to deal with frigid temperatures as a  result.  Plenty of sun will join a bitter feel to the air.  If you’re not catching my drift by this point…you’re going to want the scarfs and gloves the next few days.

Sat – Partly Sunny – High 45˚ / Sat Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 34˚

A mix of sun & clouds will coincide with southerly breezes to cause a rebound in temperatures.  I hope you enjoy it, as the north pole looks to make a visit as we get into the early part of the upcoming week.  Scattered showers will arrive Saturday night, as our next disturbance begins to move in.  A transition to a wintry mix looks to be on the table for Sunday, with another round of snow possibly following.

That will do it for now.  I’ll return when necessary with another update.  Until then, stay in touch with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent information.  Have a great day, and thanks for reading!
