Welcome everyone! Glad you could stop by this morning. Are you sure it’s January? January is typically the coolest month we have, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. That trend looks to continue as we expect more spring-like weather to end the week.
Clouds Move In
It was very nice having the sun out for most of this week. Temperatures stayed pretty mild, too. However, changes come today as we start to see some clouds begin to overtake the region.
This is due to the approaching storm system that will dominate our weather for the next few days. Additionally, winds will start to kick up today at about 20 mph from the south.
This is important, because typically winds from the south mean our temperatures will warm up. That applies today, as highs are looking to be around 60° today. Lows tonight don’t fall far, ending up in the low 50’s.
Temperatures and Precip. Chances Rise
Friday looks to turn out a lot like Thursday. However, as the storm system approaches, we could see a rise in temperature and precipitation chances. Winds on Friday will still be a little breezy at around 15 mph, but gusts could be higher. This will help our temperatures climb into the mid 60’s for highs.
Most of the day Friday should stay dry, despite the cloudy conditions. Our first rain chance comes Friday evening ahead of the main event. A few thunderstorms could be possible, too. Lows Friday night stay relatively warm in the upper 50’s. Definitely spring-like weather to end the week.
Thunderstorms This Weekend
Saturday is when the weather really starts to get active. The cold front finally makes its way into our region on Saturday afternoon, bringing some potentially heavy rain with it. Preliminary rainfall totals right now sit at 1″-2″. Thunderstorms are possible as well, and the Storm Prediction Center has us in a Marginal Risk for severe weather.
The main threat will be flash flooding, however, due to potentially high rainfall rates. Winds will also be whipping around 20 mph, with gusts near 40 mph. Temperatures stay unseasonably warm for mid-January on Saturday, with highs in the upper 60’s, thanks to this system pulling warmer air up from the south.
There’s still a lot of uncertainty with the timing and impacts of this system, so stay tuned for any updates. After the line moves out, we’ll get a couple more days of dry and warm weather before our next system rolls around.
