Good morning, folks! Yesterday was surely a doozy for many across the south. Luckily, we didn’t really destabilize enough to see significant severe weather. Today should be breezy, with storm chances decreasing.
Sunday Storms Heading East
A strong low pressure system to our west (currently in western KY) brought heavy rain and storms to the region last night. Since, they have progressed into eastern KY.
Sunshine is moving in from the south, and this will help to set up and interesting situation. The cold front is going to sweep through the region by mid-afternoon, and may have some storms along it.
The high-res models are undecided on whether or not storms develop along it for our region. Depending on how much sunshine we get, and if we are able to significantly add some juice to the atmosphere, we may just see those storms form.
I think the highest chance for storms this afternoon exists in our eastern counties (Barren, Allen). Ultimately, the best chance of storms for anyone will be between noon and 2 pm.
Expect winds to kick up ahead of, and just behind the front. The NWS has placed us in a Wind Advisory from 9 am to 7 pm.
Temperatures are already in the upper 60s this morning, so expect highs in the mid 70s that quickly fall into the mid 30s for overnight lows.
Much Calmer Monday and Tuesday
Ahh, yes. Much calmer weather is in store, and that is quite exciting.
Monday will be pretty chilly by spring standards. Models prog us in the upper 50s and lower 60s, but with plentiful sunshine, I think we will realistically see the mid 60s.
It won’t be a terrible day at all! Tuesday looks even nicer.
The high pressure system that will be influencing our weather with northerly flow on Monday will shift eastward, and will greet us with breezy southwesterly winds!
This will really up our temperatures. Expect highs in the upper 70s on Tuesday, and maybe approaching 80! All of that under sunshine, too!
Beyond Tuesday, another major storm system is expected to impact the region on Wednesday and Thursday. The SPC has already outlined a risk of Severe storms for Thursday.
We will certainly be keeping a close eye on this as the event approaches.
Well, that is all I have for you all! Have a fantastic day, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG on Twitter and Facebook!
