Soggy Conditions Through the End of the Week

Good morning, friends! 2019 sure has been an active year so far. Unfortunately, we can’t seem to catch a break as we will see soggy conditions through the end of the week. Details on timing, impacts, and amounts are below.

Flood Watch in Effect

Our entire area is under a Flood Watch until 6 AM tomorrow morning. Minor flooding is likely, including the possibility of significant ponding of water on roadways.

A large low pressure system has brought widespread rain showers last night, and unfortunately, moderate to heavy rain will continue throughout the rest of today.

During the afternoon hours, temperatures will reach the upper 50s, and a few rumbles of thunder are possible. Expect winds to pick up as well, with gusts out of the south around 20 mph.

As for timing, showers look to hang around until the 6-9 PM time frame.

We could see between 1-1.5 inches of rainfall over the 24 hour period of today. Considering that the ground has been pretty saturated so far this year, minor flooding and ponding on roadways are a concern. Also, avoid Fairview Plaza.

Luckily, after the rain exits tonight, conditions will briefly improve. Mostly cloudy skies should remain overnight, with temperatures in the upper 30s.

Short Break on Thursday

Great news, folks! High pressure will quickly be infiltrating in behind the rain, and will provide a brief, but pleasant break from the rain during the daylight hours tomorrow.

The high pressure will help diminish the gusty winds for tomorrow, giving us a calm, partly sunny day. We should hit the low to mid 50s, so temperatures will be enjoyable as well.

Unfortunately, the high pressure will leave town rather quickly, as our next rain chances will arrive tomorrow evening around 6 PM.

Precipitation should continue past midnight and into Friday. Luckily, all precipitation is forecasted to be rain as temperatures tomorrow night will remain in the low 40s.

No Surprise Here…More Rain on Friday

Rain is forecasted to persist throughout the entire day on Friday. It will be a wet and dreary morning and evening commute. Even though it will be rainy, temperatures will be in the mid 50s during the day. It could always be worse.

By Friday evening, we should see between 2.5-4 inches of total rainfall since last night. The bad news is that more rain is forecasted for Saturday as well.

Light rain showers will cover the area during the overnight hours of Friday night/Saturday morning, with temperatures staying in the low 50s.

Possible Storms on Saturday

Temperatures on Saturday could hit the 70s. That sounds great and all, but these temperatures will help increase the amount of instability in our atmosphere and create the possibility of some strong to severe storms.

In addition to these temperatures, dew point temperatures will be in the mid 60s. This certainly is worth keeping an eye on the next couple days.

Strong to severe storms will be possible after noon, and lasting into the early evening hours. The Storm Prediction has issued a Day 4 Severe Weather Outlook, with a 15% risk for our area. Of course, we will keep an eye on this potential setup and give any updates.
