Weekend Warmup is Just What the Doctor Ordered

Folks, you don’t need me to tell you that it’s been a heck of a week weather-wise. Mild start followed by an arctic plunge into the teens, a little bit of snow mixed in followed by dangerous wind chills. After a week like this, the coming weekend warmup is just what the doctor ordered.

Fairly Average Friday to Start February

Welcome to February, folks, and we’re going to start it a touch on the soggy side.

For some of us, this precipitation may be on the frozen side. As such, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Butler and Edmonson counties until 10:00 AM this morning. Anything falling from the sky should end during the afternoon, however and we’ll be left with the resultant cloudy skies.

Winds from the south will bring our highs back up to near normal for this time of year, settling this afternoon near 45º. We stay dry heading into the overnight, as skies clear a touch. Cloud cover, however, keeps us from falling below 35º overnight.

Temps Surge Saturday

Southerly flow will be well established by daybreak on Saturday and, thankfully, will send our temperatures well above average.

We’ll also see a touch more sunshine too, as we get that system from today out of the area and allow some sunshine to peek through the clouds. Highs top out right around 58º for a pleasant Saturday afternoon. Partly cloudy skies stay with us after sunset, as we fall to a low of 40º. Even our lows are staying above freezing!

Nearly Springlike for Sunday

Y’all, by Sunday, you’re going to forget that just 3 days earlier, the low in Bowling Green was just 10º. Partly sunny skies, aided by southwesterly breezes of nearly 10 MPH, will lift our temperatures well above average. In fact, you may even consider breaking the grill out if you’re hosting a party for the Superlative Professional Football Game Played In A Thing You Eat Cereal Out Of on Sunday evening.

Highs Sunday afternoon will top out again near 67º, that’s nearly 20º above average for the first weekend of February! At the very least, you’ll be able to give those furnaces a break. Our next system makes a run at us late Sunday. Cloud cover and showers keep us near 50º for an overnight low.

Active and Mild to Start February

The first full week of the month will remain on the active side, with shower chances nearly every day, culminating in a shot at some early season thunderstorms by midweek. Mild temperatures in the low to mid 60s stick around for early in the week, then falling back to seasonal averages by the Thursday timeframe. What a ride.
