Two More Days of Spring, Before Summer Returns

Hey folks! I hope everyone is having an awesome start to the summer season! I just got back from a two week honeymoon with my beautiful bride, and I couldn’t be more excited to be back forecasting!

How great has the weather been the past few days!? It has been some of the better summer weather I have seen in quite sometime. Expect two more days of spring, before summer returns.

Where was This Weather in May?

I’m pretty amazed at how nice it has been across the region early this week.

Honestly, I have had to take a double take a couple times just to make sure it is real. h/t giphy.com

The culprit was a cold front on Sunday that pushed through and ushered in a fresh, cooler and drier air mass than we had seen in a good while. We are still seeing northerly flow across the region, resulting in the nice weather we have seen.

This looks to continue today and on Thursday! Highs are only expected to be in the mid 80s (~85ºF today and ~87ºF Thursday), with not too unreasonable humidity!

Dewpoints should jump up this evening, and we should see some partly cloudy skies develop this afternoon and evening, though. Pretty typical of spring/summer, nothing out of the ordinary.

Expect a similar thing Thursday afternoon as well. The weather is pretty much perfect for evening cookouts or a nice run, as well! At night, expect mostly clear skies, with lows in the mid 60s.

Heat and Humidity Make a Terrible Return

Like Thanos returning to the Avengers world, the dreaded heat and humidity will make their return on Friday and Saturday.

It is unfortunate, but what is summer if it isn’t hot and humid? I can assure you that the weather won’t be terrible, but it will be worse than it has been all week.

A strong ridge of high pressure will build eastward, and help to raise our temperatures back up into the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Additionally, we’ll see south to southwesterly flow return, allowing for dewpoints to consistently hit the 70s again. Get the yard mowed today or Thursday, because Friday and Saturday are going to be hot, hot, hot!

Storm Threat Returns

By Saturday afternoon, the pattern looks favorable for storms, possibly some that could be strong.

We will be on the eastern periphery of the strong high pressure system, which means that disturbances in the atmosphere will tend to slide down towards our region easily.

The dotted line would be an atmospheric disturbance, and these tend to move through and give us storms during the summer. h/t COD Weather

This poses a storm threat for as long as the set up is in place. The models aren’t handling it well right now, but expect storm chances on both Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the upper 80s.

Well, that is all I have, folks! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and enjoys two more days of spring, before summer returns. Be sure to follow @wxornotBG for the latest on the forecast!
