Temperatures are currently mild and in the mid 40s. We’re dealing with some patchy fog as well as some drizzle across the region this morning. This should gradually go away in the morning hours.
Southerly winds will usher in warmer temperatures to the region. However, like we’ve seen the past couple days an increase in warmth brings an increase in moisture. Thus, we’ll have to deal with mostly cloudy skies. South winds around 10 mph could gust as high as 20 mph. Highs will top out around 61°.
Isolated showers will be possible Wednesday night. Given cloudy skies and southerly winds, we should see temperatures remain quite mild, staying in the mid 50s.
Rain chances will increase throughout the day on Thursday as a strong cold front approaches the region from the west. Southerly winds ahead of the front will once again warm temperatures into the mid 60s. Most of the rain will be right along the front, which is forecast to move through between 9 PM Thursday and 3 AM Friday.
The aforementioned cold front will be very strong, thus a quick changeover from plain rain, to freezing rain, to a mix, then finally to snow is possible. Lows Thursday night and Friday morning will drop to around 30°. Below is a look at the forecast radar imagery from the NAM, valid 6 PM Thursday to 6 AM Saturday.
The Friday morning commute will be negatively impacted. The rain ahead of the wintry precipitation will likely wash away salt and brine, thus road conditions will quickly deteriorate Friday morning. Accumulations of ice, sleet, and snow are all possible Friday morning and throughout the rest of the day on Friday. Below are the latest thoughts from the National Weather Service.
I’m not sure yet how temperatures will respond on Friday night. If we see significant accumulations of ice and snow, lows will likely end up dropping into the teens. However, right now I’m forecasting low 20s with dwindling snow chances.
